What is Shab-e-Barat?

Shab-e-Barat (Laylat al-Bara'ah) is observed on the night of the 15th of Sha'ban — the eighth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It is a night of mercy and forgiveness, when Allah descends to the lowest heaven and forgives all who sincerely repent.

A Night of Records

Many scholars narrate that the records of deeds for the coming year are decreed on this blessed night. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah looks at His creation on the 15th night of Sha'ban and forgives all of them except one who associates partners with Him.” (Ibn Majah)

When is Shab-e-Barat 2026?

Shab-e-Barat begins at sunset on the 14th of Sha'ban and lasts until Fajr of the 15th. Since the Islamic calendar is purely lunar, the Gregorian date shifts each year. The countdown above uses the Aladhan API to fetch the verified Gregorian equivalent, and falls back to a mathematical calculation if offline.

The Month of Sha'ban

Sha'ban is the month that directly precedes Ramadan and holds deep spiritual significance. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: “I never saw the Messenger of Allah fast more in any month than in Sha'ban.” (Sahih al-Bukhari). It is a month of spiritual preparation and renewal.

On your first visit, the widget immediately calls the Aladhan API and caches the result. After that, it only re-checks on the 29th of the Islamic month after 7 PM — the crescent moon sighting window — to detect if the new month has started. This keeps API calls minimal while staying accurate.
